15-Minute-Old Baby Has Life-Saving Surgery

The first moments after giving birth are some of the most emotional in a mom's life. Knowing that, it's hard for us to fathom what Leanne Maharaj felt when her newborn went into surgery just 15 minutes entering the world. 

As TIME reports, baby Jaya was born nine weeks premature with a severe heart ailment that immediately required a pacemaker. Thankfully, the hour-long procedure at Stanford University’s Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital went smoothly. Now Jaya, whose name means "victorious," is thriving.
