Baby Joseph Goes Home Breathing on His Own
'Baby Joseph' became the center of an international debate last month after doctors in Canada recommended against a tracheotomy for the terminal 15 month-old boy, based on the invasiveness of the procedure and the infant's prognosis. Joseph suffers from a progressive neurological disease called Leigh Syndrome. With the help of Priests for Life, his parents flew to a St. Louis hospital to get the surgery that would allow their son to breathe on his own and return home to receive palliative care. After a successful surgery, the Maraachlis are back at home in Canada with Joseph.
