Birthday Surprise For Autistic Child

A 10-Year-Old Boy Is in For a Big Birthday Surprise

When parents ask their kids how they want to celebrate their birthday, many respond with plans of an over-the-top party and tasty treats. But when Jennifer asked her son Colin if he wanted a party, he said no.

"Mom, who am I going to invite? I don’t have any friends," the 10-year-old said.

It's a heart-breaking thing for any mother to hear. Colin was diagnosed with a form of autism and, as a result, he has trouble socializing with his classmates. Many moms would tell their child that it isn't true, but Jennifer wanted to show her son that he is wrong. She started a Facebook page, asking family, friends, and strangers to send Colin a little love for his birthday on March 9.

"I thought, if I could create a page where people could send him positive thoughts and encouraging words, that would be better than any birthday party," Jennifer wrote on the page, which has over 1 million likes. "Please join me in making my very original son feel special on his day." Since creating the page on Feb. 2, Jennifer has received an assortment of cards, videos, and positive posts.
