Thanks to Christian Bucks, no child at Roundtown Elementary School has to suffer through a lonely recess. After witnessing several students playing by themselves, the second-grader worked with his principal to install a buddy bench. Painted in bright colors, the buddy bench provides a safe space for lonely or shy students to sit and forge new friendships. Bucks hopes this special space will lead to better recesses for everyone.
"We show we care about others when we ask others to play," Bucks told The York Daily Record. "I also hope that new friendships will be made because of the buddy bench."
