The Most Beautiful Hug We've Ever Seen

It's a moment Alyson Pring has wanted for years — to hug her son, Alex, and feel his arms around her too. Alex, now 6 years old, was born without most of his right arm, leaving him unable do things that many little boys take for granted. But all that's about to change. Thanks to Albert Manero, a PhD candidate at the University of Central Florida, Alex is now the owner of one of the first 3D-printed myoelectric prosthetic arms.

Alex's mom found Manero through e-Nable, an online group of volunteers who collaborate to make 3D-printed prosthetic limbs for children who need them. Manero and his team spent weeks testing different ideas and developed a prototype earlier this month. Alex is able to move the arm and open the hand by using his shoulder muscles. As soon as he mastered the use of his new limb, Alex wrapped his mom in a tight, warm hug.

"When he hugged me with two hands, he just didn't let go," Alyson told a local news station. "It was amazing. I think this arm will reinforce our 'you can do anything you set your mind to' attitude." Here's to many more hugs and milestones for Alex and his family.
