Are Antidepressants OK While Nursing? The Latest on Safe Meds

Doctors have long advised women to discontinue certain medications while nursing, but new data suggests that the majority of medications and immunizations are safe for nursing women and pose no threat to their babies, The Huffington Post reports.

Of the 80 percent of women who attempt to breastfeed or aspire to, less than 10 percent might have to stop taking a medication, according to Dr. Ruth Lawrence, a professor of pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, who did work on the report that will be published in Pediatrics.
