What would you do if you learned that your little one was on a pathway towards becoming unhealthily overweight?
A new online calculator promises to deliver exactly that kind of unwelcome news to parents, with the hope that the wake-up call will motivate parents of at-risk kids to make lifestyle changes that lead to healthier outcomes.
To make its predictions the calculator relies on a formula developed through 26 years of research into the factors that contribute to childhood obesity— which has tripled over the last 30 years in the United States. Factors include the child’s birth weight, the number of household members, and the mother and father’s body mass indexes (BMI).
Try out the calculator here and let us know — were you surprised by your child's results?
