Doc Refuses to Treat Patients Who Are Not Vaccinated

The vaccination debate is still a hot one among parents, but pediatrician Russell Saunders recently lit a fire under the tushes of antivaccine folks when he publicly took a stand against moms and dads who opt out of the common series of shots for their children. The doc told The Daily Beast that the difference in beliefs interferes with the physician-patient relationship — and, ultimately, doesn't want to work with parents who just don't trust him as a doctor. So when prospective patients come in for a chat to decide if he and the other doctors in his practice are the right practice for their family, he will, "always ask if the children are vaccinated or if the parents intend to vaccinate once the child is born. If the answer is no, I politely and respectfully tell them we won't be the right fit. We don't accept patients whose parents won't vaccinate them."
