A Candy-Colored Nursery With the Happiest Ceiling Ever!

NYC-based interior decorator Lisa Hershman's career in the design world began when she started helping out friends with their apartments for fun. But in 2010, she recognized that her flair for creating beautiful spaces was more than just a hobby, and thus, Play Chic Interiors came into existence. As evidenced in this cheery, candy-colored nursery, Lisa's style is fresh and fun with a touch of sophistication. "The height of the ceilings inspired this design," Lisa said of the Brooklyn Heights apartment that this nursery's a part of. "The space itself is very tight — eight feet at its widest and not quite 11 feet long. We knew that if we got people to look up, however, the focus would not be on the small size of the room." "I took some inexpensive frames and spray-painted them gold," Lisa says. "I backed them with different handmade decorative papers and added some touches — like gold-painted Legos and gold Matchbox cars. I added gold binder clips to a few of the empty frames so that the client could hang the child's artwork in them once she's a little older." Source: Raquel Bianca Creative

"The client's favorite element is the yellow chandelier," Lisa told us. "It started out bronze and, overall, kind of fussy looking. It was what the client called an 'expensive mistake.' (We've all been there). A few coats of high-gloss spray paint gave this fixture a new life and made it the focal point of the room. Now the client loves it!" Source: Raquel Bianca Creative

"My favorite element of the room is the rhino print hanging over the crib," Lisa says. "We sourced it from Australia and had it stretched once it arrived in New York. The bright colors against the white background were perfect for the space!" Source: Raquel Bianca Creative
