D.L. Hughley Shares an Emotional Story About His Son With Asperger Syndrome

Routine is a very common characteristic for individuals with Asperger syndrome, so children and adults with the Autism Spectrum Disorder often get upset when that routine is broken or changed in any way. D.L. Hughley's son, Kyle, 26, who was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was a child, is no different — he sticks to a very strict schedule, and that routine is one that parents of children with an ASD fear will limit their kids as they enter the real world.

The star of Bounce TV's The Hughley's says of Kyle in his Oprah: Where Are They Now? interview, "He graduated from college but everything has to be the same. He goes to work at the same time. He eats the same thing." But one morning a few weeks ago, Kyle offered to do something that Hughley was under the impression he was too afraid to do — break his routine and fill up his car with gas.

It was a huge step for Kyle, who completed the task he gave himself, and Hughley's show of emotion while sharing this pivotal moment in his son's life is nothing short of heartwarming as he relates, "I think sometimes I don't know for sure, but he's gonna be fine. He'll be fine."
