Yes, Moms, Vaccines Are Safe

Jul 1 2014 - 9:52am

If you are a member of the antivaccination movement, you may want to rethink your stance. After recently reviewing medical records and data from the 1990s, the RAND Corporation found no link between vaccinations and autism [1]. The company, commissioned by the federal government, specifically looked at antigens, the proteins in vaccines that create immunity. Researchers found no connection between the amount of antigen exposure and development of autism.

"Concerns about vaccine safety have led some parents to decline recommended vaccination of their children, leading to the resurgence of diseases [2]," Dr. Courtney Gidengil, RAND's lead researcher, writes in the study [3]. "We found evidence that some vaccines are associated with serious adverse events; however, these events are extremely rare and must be weighed against the protective benefits that vaccines provide."
