An Adorable Naming Ceremony With an Elephant Twist

Most moms-to-be look forward to attending their baby shower, but not Sarah Thompson. Instead, the Australian mom and her husband opted for a naming ceremony to celebrate their baby boy. So five months after giving birth to her second son, Max, the graphic designer put on her party planning hat to put together a special celebration.

"I had decided on a baby elephant theme for the naming day before Max was born as this was the theme of his nursery," Sarah says of the party. As a self-proclaimed perfectionist and creative mind, Sarah took on a lot of the tasks that many people would hire professionals to handle — from the table settings to the sweet treats. Sure, there were times of stress, but on the day of the party, the mom was calm and collected. In fact, she even found time to enjoy a special photo shoot with her family.

"We had a professional photo shoot done at home before our guests arrived, and it was lovely," Sarah says. "My eldest, Jack, who was 3 at the time, had fun clowning around for the camera. I love looking back on the photos from the day." As for the guest of honor, Sarah says he had a fabulous time as well.

"I'm sure Max's favorite part was all the cuddles and attention." Scroll through to see the elements that made Max's elephant naming day so special. Source: Style Me Gorgeous

Most new moms wouldn't have time to whip up a cute cake, but Sarah wanted to take on the task.

"I wanted to make the cake myself to save money, but since I don't really have great skills with fondant icing and like things to look perfect, I decided cake toppers were a good idea," she says. "So I purchased a wooden letter from the local craft store and painted it, added a keepsake felt elephant, and a ribbon around the edge to tie it all in." Sarah also served cupcakes that were decorated with her homemade toppers. Source: Style Me Gorgeous
