Father's Protest of His Daughter's Assigned Reading Leads to His Arrest

Never judge a book by its cover, unless you want to walk away in handcuffs. William Baer learned this lesson when he protested a required reading assignment during a recent school board meeting. Baer, who has a ninth-grade daughter at Gilford High School in New Hampshire, was upset that the school required his daughter to read Jodi Picoult's Nineteen Minutes and did not notify parents of the book's content, which includes a graphic sex scene and a school shooting. During his argument with the school board, Baer continually interrupted the proceedings, and he was eventually escorted out by a police officer.
