How the Government Shutdown Affects Education Programs

School districts, colleges, and universities that rely on federal money to support educational programs may see a delay in funding if the federal government shutdown lasts longer than a week. That's because more than 90 percent of Department of Education officials are furloughed, unable to assist school districts. Head Start programs could be the hardest hit, as 23 programs in 11 states could lose grant money due to the situation.
