Have Your Kids Taken the Cold Water Challenge?

Is your child using up large amounts of cold water or requesting trips to a nearby ocean? Chances are they're participating in that latest teen and tween social media trend. Known as the Cold Water Challenge, or in some cases the Polar Plunge, the dare requires kids to either jump into an ocean, lake, or river — like the video above — or douse themselves in cold water for 30 seconds while someone records the moment. The participant must then post the video to Twitter or Instagram and then dare five friends to do the same. Although the challenge began as a fundraising effort, it has quickly become the newest Instagram craze.

While the challenge sounds like silly fun, there have been several reports of kids drowning and becoming badly injured after diving into the frigid waters since it began picking up steam in early April.
