Three years ago, NYPD officer Nilda Vargas learned her kidneys were failing. She was put on dialysis, which forced her to give up her dream of ever becoming a mother. “When I developed kidney disease I lost hope,” she said, according to the New York Daily News. “I did not expect a baby to come into my life.”
But thanks to her brother Jose, who donated one of his kidneys, Nilda recovered. And with the birth of baby boy Aiden, she's now become a mom. Her transplant surgeon, Dr. Alan Benvenisty, says Aiden's birth was a "miracle of modern medicine," since having a baby while on dialysis would have been impossible.
Do you know anyone who had to overcome the odds to become a parent?
