Mom Sent to Prison For Assisting in Her Daughter's Abortion

A Pennsylvania mom is facing prison time for helping her teenage daughter terminate a pregnancy. After first trying to obtain a legal abortion, Jennifer Ann Whalen purchased miscarriage-inducing pills through a European website. The 39-year-old told authorities that her 16-year-old daughter did not have access to a clinic and lacked the health insurance needed to cover a hospital abortion. Providing her daughter with pills, however, violates a Pennsylvania state law that requires all nonsurgical abortions to be performed by a physician before the nine-week mark. Whalen was sentenced to 12 to 18 months in prison for her actions and was also fined $1,000 and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service once she is released. Do you agree with Whalen's sentence?
