A Philadelphia woman says she was fired after taking off time to donate a kidney to her son. Claudia Rendon, 41, took a leave of absence from her job at Aviation Institute of Maintenance to undergo the medical procedure involved in donating one of her kidneys to her 22-year-old son, Alex. A student mechanic at the institute where his mom worked, Alex needed a transplant after his kidney failed in January. When she was ready to return to work, she discovered that her employer had replaced her and was also trying to collect $2,000 from her son, "related to his sick leave."
In spite of the loss of her job, Claudia has declared: "I would do it all over again. No questions asked." And her son told Fox News, "She saved my life basically. Who else can say their mom gave them life two times?"
