Did This Mom Make Her Son Sick to Gain Sympathy?

When we see our little ones suffering, we do everything in our power to make them better. But one New York mother may have done the opposite. Lacey Spears of Westchester is being investigated in the death of son Garnett. The 5-year-old was admitted to Westchester County Medical Center last month, where doctors immediately grew suspicious of his extremely high sodium levels. A few days later, Garnett passed away, and police began their investigation.

Authorities believe that Spears, who documented her son's illness on Facebook, intentionally made him ill in order to gain sympathy from friends and members of the Fellowship Community where she and Garnett lived. The local police and district attorney's office have interviewed members of the community, searched Spears's property for evidence, and are currently awaiting a toxicology report. Spears, meanwhile, has hired a lawyer and left the state to be with family during the investigation. Front page
