These Are the 9 Types of Moms You Meet on Thanksgiving Day

Turkey Day — one of the top favorite holidays around the nation — is a day of eating, watching the Macy's Parade and holiday movies, eating, sleeping, and eating some more. Without moms, though, this holiday would be a lot different, as nine times out of ten someone's mother is the one cooking all of the delicious food you'll consume (to your own personal level of overindulgence).

That being said, no Thanksgiving meal is created equal, and there are plenty of reasons why — these nine types of moms on Thanksgiving are just the beginning.

This mom is superwoman — and maybe a little stubborn — because she knows that to make a meal that fits her standards, the best person for the job is, well, herself. This mama has been planning her meal prep down to every single minute of Thanksgiving morning for months, so don’t get in her way, or you’ll be hungry on Turkey Day.

The mom who orders in.

Whether she orders traditional Thanksgiving food from a restaurant or Chinese takeout, this mom isn’t going to be caught in the kitchen on this holiday unless she’s grabbing an extra set of chopsticks for her lo mein.

03

The mom who sets her troops up for a kitchen battle.

This mom wakes the entire family up on Thanksgiving morning and gives out her orders accordingly. Someone’s on potato peeling, another is checking the the turkey every thirty minutes, and far off across the kitchen you can hear the faint sound of someone snapping the ends off the green beans until their fingers are bleeding. She’s got her to-do list and whistle, and her dinner is going to be a perfect team effort.

04
The mom who avoids helping at all costs.

The mom who avoids helping at all costs.

Whether her own mom or other family members cook the turkey dinner, she’s avoiding the kitchen like the plague — perhaps playing with the kids in the other room or straightening the forks on the table for the third time — because if she can help it, she’s not helping!

This mom has kind of got the holidays all figured out. She sends her invites to Thanksgiving early and makes sure that each family member and friend attending is going to bring something delicious. She’ll make the turkey, but the rest falls on the shoulders of her guests.

This mom has a great spot that she reserves for her family each year. The food is good, the company is great, and best of all, her kitchen is clean when she gets home.

07
The dessert mom.

This mom may not be the best savory cook on the block, but dessert prep is where she shines. There’s a lattice apple pie, pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream, cookies of all sorts, and anything else she has the time to whip up with the help of her Kitchen Aid. Everyone loves a turkey dinner, but this mama’s family can’t wait for dessert!

Perhaps the largest, most common Thanksgiving meal blunder is not leaving enough time for your giant turkey to defrost — this mom is guilty every year. Fear not, she either always makes it work, or her family’s tradition is pizza on Turkey Day and a full Thanksgiving meal on Black Friday — there's food to be grateful for regardless.

09
The early riser mom.
ABC

The early riser mom.

This mom wakes before the crack of dawn to make sure that she gets everything cooking so that her children aren’t screaming that they’re hungry hours before everything is cooked. Her family won’t be up for hours, but she’s got a mug of coffee in one hand and a turkey baster in the other.
