New Action Figure Teaches Boys the True Meaning of "Strong"

Is the toy aisle getting a complete makeover? Hot on the heels of Mattel's more modern Barbie comes Generation Grit — an action figure that offers more than muscles and a cool weapon. Designed by Laura Hale, the Kickstarter-funded toy teaches boys to, "show their strength through traits like empathy, kindness, resourcefulness, curiosity, and grit."

Similar to the American Girl dolls, each Generation Grit action figure comes with a book and accessories to fit their historical persona. Hale is currently a third of the way to reaching her $75,000 fundraising goal. If she raises this amount by July 2, then the action figure will be manufactured and sold in stores by the end of the year.
