New Flu Vaccine 2013

Quad Flu Vaccines Offer More Protection

Parents that want to give their kids added protection against catching the flu may want to seek out a new four-in-one vaccine this Fall. Most flu vaccines inoculate the patient against three strains of flu, but the newly released quadrivalent flu vaccine guards against four strains and could prevent as many as 485 deaths per year, depending on how this year's flu is spreading, the Associated Pressreports. However, these are newer vaccines, and they may not be readily available in all areas. In fact, only about 30 million doses of the 135 million produced will offer the four-strain protection, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. The quadrivalent vaccines are being sold under the names Fluzone Quadrivalent, Fluarix Quadrivalent, and FluLaval Quadrivalent. To determine whether the four-strain vaccine is right for you and your child, consult your doctor.
