Pregnancy at 16 Weeks

Your Body at 16 Weeks Pregnant
If you’re planning to do the second trimester screen or have an amniocentesis, this is the week you can start to have one done. Most health care providers recommend that their patients have their amniocentesis done between 16 to 18 weeks.
This is also the earliest week you can have your second trimester ultrasound. Many health care providers prefer to have their patients do it between 17 and 19 weeks so that all the fetal anatomy can be seen well.
Your Baby at 16 Weeks Pregnant
Your baby is now the length of a large orange and weighs about three and a half ounces. His toenails are starting to form. His head is now erect and not tilted inwards as before. Primitive hearing starts now, but it won’t be until about 24 weeks that your baby will able to hear fully. Hiccupping often starts at this time, but is infrequent.
