Chelsea Clinton Intends to Replicate Her Parents' Dedication to Community Service With Her Family

Service wasn't just an add-on in the Clinton household, and Chelsea Clinton doesn't think it should be in anyone else's family either. The former first daughter, who leads the Day of Action program for The Clinton Foundation, joined Disney Junior's Jake and Sophia for the New York City stop on the Pirate and Princess: Power of Doing Good tour, a nationwide program designed to teach tots about the importance of carrying out community service.

Expecting her first baby with husband Marc Mezvinsky this Fall, Clinton told a crowd of parents and kids at Harlem's Riverbank State Park that they're never too young to start helping their communities. She said:

"We should all engage in service regardless of our age because it is such a testament and replenishment of not just our families, but our communities. To me it is the strongest vote that we can engage in for the future — demonstrating that it's worth taking our time in the here and now to build a stronger future for all of us. Whether you're my age or my future child's age."

The expectant mom didn't give away any family secrets about her mom Hillary Clinton's thoughts on a presidential run in 2016, but she did give some insight into how she intends to raise her baby.

"When I was growing up, we did a service project at least once a month as a family, always on a Sunday. We would go to church, and then we'd have a family meal after church. Then we'd go to a soup kitchen or a homeless shelter. My parents did a tremendous job of ensuring that service wasn't just an add-on to our lives but embedded in our lives. I grew up believing that service wasn't just something that was nice to do but was part of being a good person, part of being a member of my family, a member of my community. Marc and I intend to do the same with our children."
