Pregnant Police Officer Told to Continue Patrol or Take Unpaid Leave

Being an expectant mom hasn't been easy for Lyndi Trischler, who at 23 weeks pregnant is being forced to take unpaid maternity leave. The Kentucky police officer experienced heart palpitations early in her pregnancy. These pains were only made worse by the bulletproof vest she had to wear while on patrol. When the pain became too much for Trischler, she asked to be transferred to a desk job. But her request was denied. According to her supervisors, she had to sustain a work-related injury in order to receive any job modifications. For the safety of herself and her unborn child, Trischler was forced to go on unpaid leave. This hurts not only her finances but her career, as well.

"I worked very hard to get to this point," Trischler says. "This is the career I've really wanted. I just want to get back to work."
