While the idea of a safari-themed nursery may seem bold and boisterous, Lisa Hershman of Play Chic Interiors [1] opted for a sweeter, more subtle approach for her NYC client. The white-washed room gets a major punch of color from a piece of statement-making modern art, which was the inspiration for the room (and a gift from the new mom's incredibly talented best friend), sunny yellow storage shelves, and the prettiest Anthropologie rug (more on that later!). Scroll through to get a glimpse of this incredibly soothing, fun safari nursery.

Mom Knows Best
"When the client brought me on board, she was already eyeing the Bennett double dresser from Room and Board [3]," Lisa told us. The baby's gender was a surprise, so everything that went into the room had to work for either a little boy or a girl — proof that unisex definitely doesn't have to be boring.

Sitting Pretty
Monte Designs' Como Glider [5] ($1,195) is a sleek, stylish pick that doesn't limit itself to a baby's room. Lisa hung acrylic shelves to create a modern reading nook for the parents and new addition to enjoy together.

Choosing Favorites
"My favorite element in the room is the artwork," Lisa said of the piece hanging over the crib, which was given to her client as a wedding gift. "The client's favorite element is the pendant (Plantation Design's Ferro Chandelier [7]). It's a sophisticated piece that one would not expect to find in a nursery. Although it's large, it's tailored and crisp. It gives the room a subtle hint of glamour that really ties it together," she added.
That incredible area rug [8]? An Anthropologie find.

Walls That Wow
At first glance, the nursery walls are simply a blank canvas for all the other high-design pieces throughout the room. But upon closer inspection, they're actually textured with a geometric block pattern thanks to Graham & Brown's Superfresco wallpaper [10]. Best of all? It's paintable! So if mom and dad ever tire of the baby's space, they can change the color without removing it.

Love That Lamp
Sometimes it's the smallest details that make the biggest impact. Stray Dog Designs' Funky Floor Lamp [12] is handmade by Mexican artisans using recycled papier mache. So chic!

Jungle Boogie
The decorator's approaching to plush? Less is more — in quantity, but certainly not size! Larger-than-life elephant and giraffe stuffed animals flank the baby's Pottery Barn Kids crib [15].
