San Diego Unified School District Obtains an MRAP From the Department of Defense

In case you don't know what an MRAP is, it's a mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicle — and the San Diego Unified School District has one on hand now. Why, you ask, would a school district need a military tank? Apparently school officials plan to use it as a rescue vehicle in case of emergencies.

The district got the tank for free as a part of the Department of Defense's Excess Property Program, which recycles military equipment to local police forces. The vehicle itself was free, only $5,000 had to be paid for shipping the tank to the district, and local police plan to stuff it with teddy bears and emergency supplies. It never hurts to be prepared, right?
