There's a new B-word in town, and some pretty powerful women are hoping to ban it from your children's lexicon. Sheryl Sandberg, the chief operating officer of Facebook and author of Lean In, believes that the term "bossy" is actually discouraging young girls from reaching their full potential. Because the term is associated with other negative words, like pushy or stubborn, girls keep their hands down during class or pass up on leadership roles to avoid being disliked by classmates.

In effort to encourage girls to assert themselves, and do so with pride, Sandberg has joined forces with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Girl Scouts USA to launch Ban Bossy, a movement that hopes to remove the word from schools and the workplace. Sandberg believes by banning the word bossy, girls will feel more confident and comfortable as leaders. But the idea isn't only supported by those who work in a board room. In the PSA below, famous women, including Beyoncé, Jennifer Garner, Jane Lynch, and Diane von Fürstenberg, as well as US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, show their support for the movement and encourage other like-minded parents to follow their lead. Will you #banbossy?
