Dared by one of his peers, a New York City teen licked an entire subway handrail while being filmed. The teen was paid $1 for the deed, and likely exposed himself to more than 300,000 microbes.

Go ahead and cringe at the thought of all those germs, says Charles P. Gerba, a microbiologist at the University of Arizona. (And, we might add, pray that your own kids won't be tempted to do something similar.) "It would be safer to lick a toilet than a handrail on a bus," says Gerba.
