10 Things Only New Parents (and Parents-to-Be) Can Do on Social Media

Jun 20 2014 - 7:54am

We give new moms a lot of leeway. When they're late somewhere, we know it's hard to get out of the house with a new baby. When they miss an appointment, we know they haven't slept for more than a few hours and probably just forgot. But there's no place where we give them cut them more slack than on social media. When it comes to posting and sharing, we let them get away with a lot more than we do our other friends. Don't believe me? Check out 10 things we allow new parents to say that would have us up in arms if it was anyone else.

Posting a Picture of Something They Peed On

Especially when the photo is obviously taken right in the bathroom.

Sharing Photos of Their Insides

In any other circumstance, no one would want to see their friends' and family members' innards, but when it comes to pregnancy, moms-to-be can't wait to show off what's growing in their uteruses.

Talk About Poop — Incessantly!

Unless you're an 8-year-old boy, poop talk is usually restricted to the bathroom (and it probably should be for them too). But when there's a newborn at home, new moms talk, post, and ask questions about the size, color, smell, and frequency.

Posting Boob Photos

The breastfeeding selfie trend is going strong [4] thanks to Facebook now allowing the images [5] to be posted. But other photos of bare boobs will not be appreciated by your friends.

Brag About Bodily Functions

Again, usually in the realm of teenage boys who would love to brag about the length of their burps and smell of the farts, when new moms do the same about their baby, it's fair game.

Post Photos of Rashes to Get People's Opinions

If there wasn't a child in the photo, your friends would certainly tell you how gross it was!

Write in Baby Talk

Calling your partner Daddy or referring to yourself as Mommy is only allowed for the first few weeks after baby is born. After that, your friends may wonder if you and your partner have something a bit perverse going on.

Post Nude Photos

Not only would you be breaking several social media outlets' rules by posting nude photos of anyone but your baby, but also you'd be freaking out your family!

Talk About Vomit

Other than fraternity kids talking about the previous night's crazy party, the only people who have an excuse for talking about vomit online are new moms.

Post Philosophical Questions in the Middle of Night and Expect Answers

When friends without kids do this, you think it's a cry for attention. When a new mom does it, you know it's because she's feeding the baby and looking for company online.
