Tell Your Daughter She's Pretty . . . Brilliant

Could a simple comment deter your daughter's dreams? A new ad suggests it could. Verizon, in partnership with the women's video platform Makers, recently released an ad to push girls toward the STEM fields. The commercial shows a girl's transformation from toddler to teen. As she explores the great outdoors and takes on STEM-like projects, she hears several comments from her parents: "Who's my pretty girl," "Don't get your dress dirty," and "Why don't you hand that to your brother?" The ad suggests that these comments, or rather insults, may be the reason so few women pursue science and math as a career. Take a look at the powerful ad, and tell us what you think.
