Are Newspaper Birth Announcements Putting Babies at Risk?

Wisconsin moms have to find a new way to welcome their babies. The Wisconsin State Journal, the state's most popular paper, said it will no longer publish birth announcements. The decision has nothing to do with cutting costs but rather protecting the newborns from potential abductions. After local hospitals stopped providing information on newborns, claiming the announcements, "set people up as targets for somebody who might want to steal a baby," the paper thought it was best to stop this tradition. Though parents can call and share the information with the paper, editors don't want to put newborns at risk.
